Vol. 295 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bray Promenade Wall.

17.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the need for maintenance work at the promenade wall in Bray, County Wicklow; and if he proposes to make money available for this work in the coming year.

I have been informed by the local authorities concerned that works are required to the promenade wall in Bray.

The Commissioners of Public Works are not responsible for the maintenance of the wall and have no funds for this purpose.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance told me that the statutory preliminary examination in respect of the proposal from Wicklow County Council under the Coast Protection Act, 1963, in relation to the promenade seawall at Bray had not as yet been carried out. Could he now state whether this preliminary examination has been made?

No, it has not.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary tell me has the Office of Public Works been active in this or is the fault somewhere in the local authority?

If the Deputy will cast his mind back to the question, in reply to a supplementary question from him on that occasion I said the examination would not be carried out for a long time. In further reply to the second part of this question, if the local authority were to consider drawing up a plan of works on their own behalf the Office of Public Works would give advice and, in fact, we notified the Wicklow County Council to that effect.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary tell me when Wicklow County Council were notified to that effect?

I could not say.

Was it within the past six months or three months? The question was tabled on 11th June, 1974.

Question No. 18 is for written answer. Question No. 19.
