Vol. 295 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Citizens Abroad.

8.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the arrangements that exist to help Irish citizens in countries where this country has no diplomatic representation.

It has long been the practice that, particularly in emergency situations and special circumstances, the local British diplomatic or consular officials provide assistance for Irish citizens in countries where we are not ourselves represented. In the case of the ordinary range of consular facilities these are provided to the extent possible either from Dublin or by our nearest diplomatic mission or consular office abroad. The Minister would take this opportunity to express appreciation and thanks to the British authorities and their officials for all the consular assistance provided and continuing to be provided.
