47.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the estimated additional cost to the Exchequer in one year of reducing to 65 years the minimum age at which contributory and non-contributory old age pensions are payable.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, it is proposed to take Questions Nos. 46 and 47 together.

If the minimum age at which contributory and non-contributory old age pensions are payable were reduced to 66, the estimated additional cost to the Exchequer in one year would be £6.5 million and, if the minimum age were reduced to 65, the estimated additional cost to the Exchequer would be £13.5 million, in one year.
