Vol. 296 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rural Electrification.

85.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of households in each county which will benefit under the terms of the new limited rural electrification scheme; and the revised estimate of the cost of full implementation of the scheme.

Cavan): The Electricity Supply Board are at present drawing up plans for the implementation of the scheme in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1976.

I am informed by the board that the boundaries of the board's districts do not coincide with county boundaries and therefore the number of eligible householders cannot readily be made available on a county basis.

The actual cost of full implementation of the scheme will depend on a number of factors which cannot be reliably estimated in advance such as the number of eligible householders who opt to avail of the scheme as well as the pace at which the work can be accomplished in the different areas.
