Vol. 296 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kennedy Concert Hall.

12.

asked the Minister for Finance if there have been any developments in the creation of the Kennedy Concert Hall; and if he will make a statement about the present state of the project.

In May, 1974 I announced the Government's decision to develop the Great Hall and ancillary buildings in Earlsfort Terrace for use as a public concert hall and that the Government were considering an alternative memorial to the late President Kennedy.

The design of the public concert hall project is well advanced and tenders for the building work will be invited this year. The Great Hall which is being redesigned as an auditorium contains all the basic characteristics for first class acoustic conditions for orchestral music. This great potential is being fully exploited in the design. The auditorium will provide seating for more than 1,200 people and there will be adequate facilities for the public and for the orchestra.

The Government have not finally decided on the form which the alternative memorial to the late President Kennedy will take.
