Vol. 296 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Harbour.

32.

Mr. R. Burke

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will arrange to have necessary improvement work carried out to Balbriggan harbour, County Dublin.

The survey team set up to examine the ports and landing facilities on the Dublin coast completed its work in July, 1976. I expect to receive its report in the near future. Until I have had an opportunity of considering it I cannot say what improvement works, if any, will be carried out at Balbriggan.

Mr. R. Burke

Surely the Parliamentary Secretary is aware that the surface of the harbour wall is in an appalling condition, as is the depth when the tide is out? That does not need a report or survey. What emergency action will the Parliamentary Secretary take to improve the conditions in Balbriggan for fishermen using that harbour at the moment?

Public money is not expended without a report. We expect next month a report from the survey team who examined that harbour. When it is received it will be examined and appropriate action will be taken.

Mr. R. Burke

"Parliamentary Secretary for Reports" rather than "Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries" would best describe the Parliamentary Secretary.

What did Fianna Fáil do for Balbriggan harbour from 1957 to 1973?

According to the files, very little.

Mr. R. Burke

The Parliamentary Secretary could not even repair a light without a report.

I have called for order.
