Vol. 296 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport Service.

153.

asked the Minister for Education if he will restore the school transport service to the children attending Redwood National School, Lorrha, County Tipperary.

When the school transport service from the Ballmacegan/Grange locality was established, it was subject to the condition that the average daily number of children being conveyed did not fall below ten for two consecutive terms. The number of eligible children being conveyed on this service fell to six during the last term of the 1975-76 school year and to five during the first term of the current school year. In these circumstances, there was no option, under the terms of the free transport scheme, but to withdraw this service. It cannot be restored unless the number of eligible children is at least ten.
