Vol. 296 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Safety Regulations.

8.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is proposed to introduce legislation on building safety regulations aimed at reducing fire hazards; and, if so, when.

Provisions relating to the reduction of fire hazards in buildings are contained in sections N, P and Q of the draft building regulations which were published on 29th November, 1976. They include the setting of standards for resistance to fire of structural components and materials, the means of escape from buildings and means of access to buildings for fire appliances.

Comments have been invited on the draft regulations and these comments will be examined when the final version of the regulations is being prepared.

The building regulations have statutory effect when made but it is not possible at this stage to state the date on which they will be made.
