Vol. 296 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

81.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if a single person's social assistance allowance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin; and, if so, when.

It was decided by a deciding officer that the person concerned was not entitled to a single woman's allowance on her claims of 25th July, 1975 and 11th June, 1976 on the ground that her weekly rate of means as appropriately calculated exceeded the statutory limit, which was £8.00 weekly, for entitlement to the allowance. She was notified of these decisions and of her right to appeal against them if she was dissatisfied but did not do so. A new form has now been forwarded to her to enable her to renew her claim for single woman's allowance if she so wishes. On receipt of the completed form her entitlement to the allowance will be considered afresh by a deciding officer.

82.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will now arrange to have unemployment assistance payments made to a person (name supplied) in County Cork.

An application for unemployment assistance made by the person concerned on 1st December, 1976 was disallowed by a deciding officer on the ground that he did not satisfy the statutory condition for entitlement to unemployment assistance which requires an applicant to be capable of work. He has been notified of this decision and of his right to appeal against it if he is dissatisfied.

83.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will rectify the position whereby a person (details supplied) in County Cork was paid occupational injury benefit at a rate applicable to a single man although he is married and has a family of five.

The person referred to by the Deputy claimed occupational injury benefit in respect of the period 8th October, 1976 to 27th November, 1976. Due to an error, he was initially paid at the personal rate applicable to a single man, but subsequently his payments were adjusted to take account of his wife and five children and the final adjusting payment was issued on 6th December, 1976.
