Vol. 296 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Limerick School.

32.

asked the Minister for Education if there is an application for funds with his Department to pay for the repair of Martinstown National School, County Limerick; and, if so, when he will make a decision on the case.

A grant has been sanctioned in this case.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state the amount of money involved in the grant which has been sanctioned and state when the grant will be paid?

A two-thirds grant of the cost based on an estimate of £2,350 has been sanctioned.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state when the grant will be paid?

I take it that will depend on the progress made in relation to carrying out the works and the preparation made for that.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state if it was the putting down of the question that secured the sanction?

In no way. The sanction arose from a decision by the present Minister for Education to allow grants in respect of one- and two-teacher schools. It would not have occurred at all had it not been for that distinct change in policy following representations from Deputy Jones and Senator William O'Brien——

When was the sanction granted?

A perusal of the records of the Department will show that both public representatives mentioned have been extremely active in this case.

I am calling the next question.
