asked the Minister for Justice if he has received a request from any public representatives in the Dublin South-East constituency for a meeting to discuss grave social problems in part of the area.

I assume the Deputy is referring to letters that the Minister for Health and I have had from a public representative about prostitution in Dublin, which included an offer to meet us to discuss, among other things, the possibility of setting up a committee to consider the matter. Pressure of work has prevented me from dealing with the request but I would point out that the problem of prostitution is not primarily a legal or police one. As regards the enforcement of the law, I might mention that I am informed that during 1976 there were 91 prosecutions in respect of prostitution in the particular area referred to in the correspondence.
