Vol. 297 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Harbour.

1.

andMr. Keaveney asked the Minister for Fisheries why no dredging has taken place at Greencastle harbour, County Donegal, since the present pier was constructed; and whether he will take whatever action is necessary to ensure that dredging is carried out in the near future.

I have no responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance, which includes dredging, of Greencastle harbour. That responsibility rests with Donegal County Council.

I am, however, prepared to recommend a State grant towards the cost of carrying out a proposed large scale improvement scheme for this harbour, which includes the deepening of the existing berthage, provided that Donegal County Council contributes 25 per cent of the cost and undertakes maintenance of the completed works.
