Vol. 297 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary Garda Strength.

11.

asked the Minister for Justice the strength and numbers of gardaí in south Tipperary in 1973 and 1977; and the numbers for 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977 in the towns of Cashel, Cahir, Tipperary, Carrick-on-Suir and Clonmel.

The available figures are in respect of the Garda districts of Clonmel, Cahir and Tipperary, which between them also include small portions of Counties Kilkenny, Limerick and Waterford. The strength of the Garda Síochána in those three districts in January, 1973, was 114; in January, 1977, it was 109.

Garda strength in the towns referred to in the question is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.

In addition there are members attached to the stations in the places in question who are on temporary transfer to Border and other areas.
