Vol. 297 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wildlife Advisory Council.

23.

asked the Minister for Fisheries the cause of the long delay in establishing the Wildlife Advisory Council in accordance with the provisions of the Wildlife Act, 1976.

Establishment of the council is under consideration. As the Act became law only as recently as 22nd December last I cannot accept the implication of undue delay.

Would the Minister give the reason behind transferring the conservation and wildlife section of the Department of Lands to the Department of Fisheries?

I do not think there is any cross-problem there. The Act only became law—with the help of Deputy Tunney, who was very understanding—on 22nd December last and we are in the process of producing this council. We are good, but we are not exactly God Almighty.

My question was: did the Minister agree that the Department of Fisheries was the right Department for the conservation and wildlife section of the Department of Lands?

I am charged with responsibility for fisheries, forestry and wildlife.

(Interruptions.)

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.

We will continue to badger the Minister.

Order. I am calling the next business.

That is because the Deputies are over there and we are over here.
