Vol. 297 No. 7

Written Answers. - Sheep Scab.

54.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the serious position of Mayo farmers due to the spread of sheep scab; and the steps his Department has prepared to curb this menace.

Responsibility for implementing the statutory procedures for dealing with sheep scab outbreaks rests with the local authorities.

I am aware of the outbreaks which have occurred in County Mayo and I understand that the Mayo County Council, assisted by my Department's veterinary officers, have arranged for all necessary action including the special dipping of infected and in-contact animals.
