Vol. 297 No. 9

Social Welfare (Consolidation) Bill, 1976: Message from Seanad.

The following message has been received from Seanad Éireann:
Seanad Éireann has passed the following Resolution:
That Seanad Éireann concurs with Dáil Éireann in its Resolution communicated to Seanad Éireann on the 23rd day of February, 1977, that it is expedient that the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Bill, 1976, be referred to the Standing Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills.

I move:

That the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Bill, 1976, be referred to the Standing Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills.

That the first meeting of the Committee be held on a date not earlier than 23rd March, 1977.

I wonder, Sir, in the circumstances can the Parliamentary Secretary move this? It is a matter of technicality.

It is quite in order.

Under what Standing Order?

I cannot just give the Deputy that at the moment.

I think there might be some confusion and I also think I might be responsible for it. There are two Bills on the Order Paper, one is in connection with the Consolidation Bill, which is purely a procedural matter informing the Dáil that the proper procedure for the setting up of the Special Committee was moved in the Seanad yesterday, and the appropriate motion has now to be moved here. It is a purely procedural matter. The other Bill we hope to proceed with is the Social Welfare Bill, 1977, which I understand is No. 13.

Question put and agreed to.

A message will be sent to the Seanad accordingly.
