Vol. 297 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bus and Train Fares.

22.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when he received the recommendations of the National Prices Commission on the application by CIE for permission to increase bus and train fares in the Dublin area.

Although the NPC made their submission to the Government on 3rd February, they invited the Fianna Fáil group on Dublin City Council, on February 8th to submit suggestions on this matter. I have checked by 'phone as to whether the suggestions were received. On the same day the Minister announced a decision. This brings to light the whole farce of the Government's attempt to control prices here.

The Deputy is making a speech rather than asking a question.

This is very important. I want to show the people the hypocrisy of the National Prices Commission and the Government in this matter.

The Deputy may not continue along those lines.

The National Prices Commission had the audacity to ask us to meet when they had already made recommendations to the Government, at least so the Minister says.

The Deputy may ask a question.

(Cavan): The Deputy will be glad to hear that fares payable by school-going children have been reduced.

That is not the question.

Question No. 23, please.

(Cavan): The 12p fare is now 10p, and the 8p fare is reduced to 5p.

(Interruptions.)

Order. Question No. 23, please.
