asked the Taoiseach the percentage of the total sales of footwear on the Irish market that were home-produced in (a) 1974 (b) 1975 and (c) 1976.

While particulars for actual sales of footwear are not compiled, figures for the available domestic supply can be derived as home production less exports plus imports. On the basis of the figures for quantities of footwear, exclusive of rubber footwear, the percentage of the available domestic supply which came from home production was as follows: 1974, 46 per cent; 1975, 36 per cent; 1976, 28 per cent.

asked the Taoiseach the number of pairs of footwear sold on the Irish market in (a) 1974 (b) 1975 and (c) 1976.

While particulars for actual sales of footwear are not compiled, figures for the available domestic supply can be derived as home production less exports plus imports. The figures, exclusive of rubber footwear, for the years in question are as follows: 1974, 8.91 million pairs; 1975, 7.35 million pairs; 1976, 9.60 million pairs.

asked the Taoiseach the number of pairs of footwear imported in (a) 1974 (b) 1975 and (c) 1976.

The numbers of pairs of footwear imported in the year 1974, 1975 and 1976 according to the external trade statistics were as follows: 1974, 5,203,000 pairs; 1975, 5,136,000 pairs; 1976, 7,269,000 pairs.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the volume of clothing imported in (a) 1974 (b) 1975 and (c) 1976.
