Vol. 298 No. 4

Written Answers. - Community Schools.

159.

asked the Minister for Education the number of community schools approved for 1977 in Laois-Offaly; the location of each; the cost of each; the names of those schools gone to tender; when it is hoped to build them; and the design of each school.

My Department has approved the erection of a community school at Birr, County Offaly at a total estimated cost of £1,100,000. Tenders for the new building have already been invited and it is hoped that actual construction can be commenced in June next.

The new school, which basically is a one-storey structure, will cater for the comprehensive needs of 900 pupils. It will incorporate modern educational and architectural standards, including clustering and inter-relationship of rooms and will provide maximum flexibility in layout. An adequate technical description of the design is not possible without reference to and sight of the design plans.
