Vol. 299 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork TV Reception.

20.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will provide a transposer station to serve the Youghal, County Cork, area where television colour and vision reception are poor owing to the fact that it is situated in a fringe area.

RTE accept that television reception in parts of Youghal is less than satisfactory. In other parts they say that reception should be satisfactory if suitable aerials are used.

RTE advise that, given the resources available to them and the extent of their existing programme of work on improvement of reception and on the construction of the second network, there is likely to be some delay in effecting improvement in Youghal by way of providing a transposer. The matter will, however, be kept under review. In the meantime, RTE have had meetings with Youghal Urban District Council and other local bodies and have advised on measures which can be taken to improve reception. They will be arranging a further meeting in the near future.
