Vol. 299 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Houses.

9.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason for the delay in commencing the construction of new houses at Clifden, County Galway for residents of Inishturbot; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The erection of buildings for the Turbot islanders had to await the acquisition and development of suitable sites. In November last a contract was placed for the erection of a dwellinghouse on the only site then ready, but the contractor subsequently withdrew without carrying out any work.

Seven further sites are now ready and tenders have been invited for the construction of buildings on all eight sites. The closing date was 18th May and the tenders lodged are now being examined. Subject to the receipt of an acceptable tender a contract for the work will be placed as quickly as possible.
