304.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total cost to the Exchequer in a full year of granting increases in personal income tax allowances to the following values: (a) single person £865 (b) widowed person £935 (c) married person £1,500 and (d) dependent spouse £230.

Following is the information requested: (a) £27.0 million, (b) £1.3 million, (c) £44.0 million, (d) £18.0 million.

305.

asked the Minister for Finance the annual cost to the Exchequer of increasing the personal allowance for income tax purposes by £200 for single persons and by £400 for married couples.

The cost is estimated at £71 million in a full year.

306.

asked the Minister for Finance the annual cost to the Exchequer of granting full allowance for income tax purposes for premium payments made under the VHI schemes.

The cost of providing relief under section 145 of the Income Tax Act, 1967, for medical insurance premiums is estimated at £3.0 million in a full year.
