asked the Minister for Justice the total number of armed robberies from banks, post offices and other premises from 5th July, 1977, to date; the total amount of money robbed; and the total amount of money recovered.

The number of robberies or attempted robberies in which firearms were produced in the period from 5th July, 1977, to 30th September, 1977, was 76 of which 14 were from banks, ten from post offices or post office vans and 52 from other premises. The amount of money reported stolen in 74 of these robberies was £227,024.71 and the amount recovered up to the 11th October, 1977, was £33,148. In the other two robberies the amount of money taken has yet to be ascertained.
