Vol. 300 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consultants' Remuneration.

22.

asked the Minister for Health when the Finlay Review Body on consultants' remuneration in the health service will be making their report.

This review body have been considering how medical consultants in the health services might be paid in the context of the abolition of income and valuation limits for limited eligibility. I have recently agreed with the medical organisations that direct talks should take place between the Department, the hospital authorities and the organisations on the possibility of having a uniform method of payment for consultants within the present system of health services. This decision will affect the review body's work and I intend to discuss the situation with the members of that body very soon. In the circumstances, the Deputy will appreciate that I cannot now give the information he requests.
