Vol. 300 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pension Rights.

49.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when he proposes to introduce legislation to provide for the transferability of full pension rights on the change from one occupation to another, or to a similar occupation with a new employer.

Arrangements for the tranferability of pension rights between occupational pension schemes generally would have major financial and other implications for the bodies controlling those schemes. Discussion of this matter forms part of the general debate on the question of pension provision which is under way following the publication of the Green Paper on "A National Income-Related Pension Scheme". A number of bodies involved in the pensions field have indicated that they intend to make detailed submissions to me and their views and those of other interested groups on the question of transferability must be taken into consideration in framing legislation in regard to this complex question.
