Written Answers. - National Monuments Advisory Committees.

283.

asked the Minister for Finance the local authorities which now have National Monuments Advisory Committees in Accordance with section 22 of the National Monuments Acts; and the number of local authorities which do not.

289.

asked the Minister for Finance the local authorities which have established National Monuments Advisory Committees in accordance with section 22 of the National Monuments Act, 1930; if he has issued or will issue any guidance to local authorities in respect of the formation, composition and functions of such committees; and if he will consider asking the National Monuments Advisory Council to advise on how the role of these committees can be up-dated in the light of experience.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to answer Questions Nos. 283 and 289 together.

I am aware that the following local authorities have, at one time or another, established National Monuments Advisory Committees in accordance with the National Monuments Act, 1930, but I have no information as to how many committees currently exist.

County Councils: Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Leitrim, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Roscommon, Tipperary NR, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow.

County Boroughs: Dublin, Limerick, Waterford.

Urban District Councils: Kinsale, Youghal.

The Commissioners of Public Works have issued guidance to county councils regarding their functions under the Acts, and suggesting the formation of such committees.,

I shall consider seeking the advice of the National Monuments Advisory Council on these matters.
