Vol. 300 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Council Superannuation Benefits.

310.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will state, in respect of superannuation benefits et cetera, in payment by county councils generally, the approximate number of (a) service pensions for officers (b) service pensions for servants (c) officers' widows' pensions (d) servants' widows' pensions (e) ex-gratia payments made to officers' widows, and (f) ex-gratia payments made to servants' widows.

The information available in my Department indicates that the approximate number of service pensions in course of payment by county councils to the persons referred to at (a) and (b) is 900 and 4,000 respectively.

The information requested in relation to the persons referred to at (c) and (e) is not available in my Department.

In accordance with a recommendation of the Working Party on Local Authority Superannuation, schemes to provide for the payment of pensions to the persons referred to at (d) and (f), on the lines of the corresponding arrangements for the widows of officers, are in course of preparation in my Department. Details of the schemes will be notified to local authorities as soon as possible.
