Vol. 300 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Headage Payments.

26.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the large number of late applicants under EEC Directive 75/268 concerning cattle headage payments in severely handicapped areas; and if he will extend the closing date.

About 250 applications under the EEC cattle headage payments scheme were received subsequent to the official closing date of 26th August last, which was widely publicised.

As an exceptional measure for this year only, I have already agreed to accept applications received up to and including 26th September last. Inspections under the scheme have been under way since early September and must be completed as quickly as possible. In the circumstances, I cannot consider any further extension beyond that date.
