Vol. 300 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Potato Processing.

26.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if he will make a statement on the possibility that Ceimicí Teoranta will open one of its factories for potato processing into alcohol, thereby helping to relieve the serious market situation faced by producers at present.

Ceimicí Teoranta are prepared to process potatoes at their Labbadish factory subject to specified price and supply terms which have been conveyed the relevant farmers' organisation. The possibility of commencing the processing is still being actively pursued by Ceimicí Teoranta with the organisations.

What price per ton is being proposed?

That is matter for the Department of Agriculture and Ceimicí Teoranta.

Have Ceimicí Teoranta made any recommendations the Department regarding this item.

That is a be a matter for the Department Agriculture, not for my Department.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that last week the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, while answering a similar question, said that the price was a matter between the farmers and the company? The farmers will go to the wall.
