Vol. 300 No. 8

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

380.

andMr. O'Toole asked the Minister for Education if he will increase the valuation and income limits for the purpose of determining eligibility for higher education grants, as, due to increased cost of living, people with large families who are over income and valuation limits are unable to meet the financial strain of providing higher education for their children.

The means test requirements were revised in connection with the preparation of the relevant higher education grants schemes by local authorities in 1977. The awards as from the commencement of the academic year 1977-78 are in accordance with the terms of these schemes.

A further review of eligibility requirements for the purpose of the local authorities' higher education grants schemes in 1978 is now under consideration.
