Vol. 301 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

424.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in relation to provision of a piped water supply to Ballintubber and the surrounding area in County Roscommon.

Progress with a group water scheme to serve the Ballintubber area depends on the Castlerea water supply scheme. While the documentation for the Castlerea scheme has been completed, Roscommon County Council will not be in a position to proceed further pending acquisition of the necessary land and water rights at the Longford Springs source. Objections have been made to the council's proposal in that regard and a public inquiry was held in Castlerea on 26th October, 1977. I await the report of this inquiry.

425.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in relation to South Roscommon regional water scheme.

I understand that tenders obtained recently for this scheme are being examined by the county council's consultants.

426.

asked the Minister for the Environment the progress that has been made in relation to stage 2 of the Roscommon sewerage scheme which will provide a sewerage system for Walk Road, Circular Road, Galway Road, and other areas in the environs of Roscommon town.

I sanctioned on 26th October, 1977, the acceptance by Roscommon County Council of the tender recommended for the construction of this scheme.

427.

asked the Minister for the Environment the progress that is being made in relation to Knockcroghery sewerage scheme which was placed at the top of the priority list by Roscommon County Council.

I understand that revised contract documents are being prepared for this scheme by the local authority.

428.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in relation to Athleague regional water scheme which will supply Roscommon town.

I understand that this scheme has been advertised for tender.
