asked the Minister for Education if, in relation to the 398 special trainee teachers who recently completed the induction course organised for his Department he will state, (a) the number who have achieved both a pass in mathematics and honours in Irish at leaving certificate level; (b) the number who have a pass in mathematics but who have not achieved honours in Irish; and (c) the number who have honours in Irish but who have not achieved a pass in mathematics.

In relation to the 398 special trainee teachers who recently completed the induction courses organised by my Department, the statistics requested are as follows: (a) 218 candidates secured both a pass in Mathematics and honours in Irish at leaving certificate level; (b) 72 candidates have a pass in Mathematics but have not achieved honours in Irish; (c) 35 candidates have honours in Irish but have not achieved a pass in Mathematics.
