Vol. 301 No. 4

Written Answers. - Car Obstructions.

487.

asked the Minister for Justice the action taken to date on foot of complaints made to the Garda about the offering of cars for sale on the public road and the parking of cars, including derelict and untaxed cars, in an obstructive and dangerous manner (details supplied): and if further action will be taken to curb the nuisance complained of.

The Garda say that the complaints in question have been investigated and where breaches of the law have been detected appropriate action has been taken.

In the period since 1st January, 1976, 51 "fine-on-the-spot" notices were issued in respect of vehicles parked on the footpaths in the area referred to. In the same period there were 32 prosecutions for obstruction by vehicles and eight prosecutions for having untaxed vehicles in the area. Evidence to support a charge of unlawfully offering for sale a vehicle parked on the roadway in the area was not obtained.
