Vol. 301 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Amenities Despoliation.

492.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the despoliation of the appearance and amenities of 19th and early 20th century Dublin residential roads where single dwellings have been converted into multiple dwellings and rubbish and domestic refuse is stored, often-times in open containers and torn bags in front gardens in full public view; if, in consultation with Dublin Corporation, he will encourage a programme of action to rid the suburbs of such eyesores; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The storage of rubbish in such a way as to cause a nuisance, or to litter public roads or footpaths, are offences which leave the responsible parties liable to prosecution. It is a matter for the Dublin Corporation as the local authority concerned to consider what action on these or other lines may be appropriate and effective in dealing with problems of the kind referred to.

At present the law relating to the collection and disposal of waste is being reviewed and consideration will be given in that connection to the case for better provision for controlling the way in which domestic waste is presented for collection.
