Vol. 301 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Sewerage Scheme.

3.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position concerning Portmagee sewerage scheme, County Kerry.

Having regard to the need to conserve the available capital for the schemes of highest priority, I cannot say when I will be in a position to convey a decision to the local authority on this scheme, contract documents for which are under consideration in my Department.

Will the Minister state when he received contract documents?

Contract documents were received in this Department in October, 1976.

Will the Minister state if he has notified the council that he is not prepared to sanction the scheme?

Will he tell the House when he notified the council?

I cannot say when I will be in a position to convey the decision to the local authority.

Do I take it from the Minister's reply that this area will be waiting for years for a sewerage scheme?

No. The documents were lodged in my Department in October, 1976. They have been there for only four months since I became Minister.

Can the Minister offer a ray of hope to the people of Portmagee that the scheme will be carried out next year?

At this stage I cannot give such an undertaking. Of course, I will see what I can do.

Let us hope the Minister can do something.
