Vol. 301 No. 6

Written Answers. - Education Expenditure.

557.

asked the Minister for Education the annual average growth rates of real public expenditure per enrolled student at first, second and third levels from the years 1963-64 to date, using provisional or estimated figures for 1976 and 1977, if necessary.

558.

asked the Minister for Education if he will furnish a statement showing average State expenditure per enrolled student each year from 1963-64 to date, using provisional or estimated figures for 1976 and 1977 in respect of each of the following institutions: primary schools, secondary schools (free scheme), secondary schools (fee charging), vocational schools, community schools, comprehensive schools, university colleges, and other third level institutions; and if he will furnish comparative data for other EEC countries broken down by first, second and third levels only.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 557 and 558 together. Figures of expenditure for the education services are prepared in the form set out in the Appropriation Accounts presented pursuant to section 7 of the Comptroller and Auditor General Act 1923 (No. 1 of 1923). They are not available in the form specified in the questions for the period referred to. I am not in a position to furnish statistics for other member states of the European Communities.
