asked the Minister for Education the estimated percentage of primary school students in need of remedial teaching for each county and county borough under the following headings: (i) one year behind, (ii) two years behind, and (iii) three or more years behind; if, in the case of the Dublin County Borough, he will furnish a more localised breakdown; and the number of remedial teachers in each area.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remedial Teaching.
Statistics are not compiled by my Department on the basis of categories of pupils as specified in the question. The number of full-time remedial teachers, in excess of the normal school quota, employed in national schools, and the number of teachers employed on a part-time basis in Saturday morning remedial classes and in child guidance clinics, according to county and county borough area, is given in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.
Following is the statement:
Numbers of Full-Time Remedial Teachers Employed in National Schools and Part-Time Remedial Teachers Employed in Saturday Morning Classes and in Child
Guidance Clinics.
