Vol. 302 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Dental Hospital.

5.

asked the Minister for Health if he intends to bring the Dental Hospital, Dublin under the auspices of the St. James's Hospital Board, in view of the present unsatisfactory structure of the Dental Hospital Board; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following the recent establishment of a single Faculty of Dentistry in Dublin, I am in consultation with the Minister for Education regarding arrangements for the future management of the Dublin Dental Hospital. I am not yet in a position to make a statement on the matter.

Can the Minister indicate if there is provision for a dental teaching facility in the new teaching complex which, I understand, has been sanctioned for the new St. James's Hospital?

All those matters are still under review.

Has the teaching complex not been sanctioned?

What exact form the teaching of dentistry will take in the future has not yet been finally settled. I am in consultation with the Minister for Education about it.

But is the general teaching complex sanctioned?

I do not understand what the Deputy means by general teaching complex.

The Board of St. James's Hospital have been seeking to have a teaching complex sanctioned in conjunction with the building of the new hospital. I am asking if the teaching aspect of the building of the hospital has been sanctioned. I think it also involves provision for dental training.

The provision of a new school of dentistry is a matter primarily for the Minister for Education and the question should be addressed to him.

I am as wise now as I was when I started.
