asked the Minister for Fisheries the amount collected, by way of fines and confiscation of gear, in respect of foreign trawlers fishing illegally in Irish waters in the years 1972 to 1977.

The reply to the Deputy's question is in the form of a tabular statement which I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have circulated in the Official Report.

In addition appeals to higher courts are pending in respect of 35 cases, seven of which relate to 1976 and 23 to 1977. The appellants in these cases have entered into bonds totalling over £500,000 pending the outcome of the appeals.
