Vol. 302 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dublin Cattle Export Facilities.

293.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if B & I have any plans to dispose of their cattle yard at the North Wall, Dublin; and, if so, what alternative plans he has for the provision of export facilities for live cattle at Dublin Port.

I am informed by the B & I Company Limited that it is their intention to dispose of their cattle yards at the North Wall, Dublin, in January, 1979. Some years ago, the company offered to sell the yards to the cattle trade, but negotiations fell through.

The provision of facilities at the port of Dublin is primarily the responsibility of the Dublin Port and Docks Board and/or the commercial interests concerned. The Port and Docks Board are prepared to consider proposals in regard to the provision of such facilities. I understand that, in fact, representatives of the board have already had discussions with the cattle trade in the matter.
