Vol. 302 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Pension Scheme.

17.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport when it is proposed to finalise the situation regarding the CIE (wages grade) pension scheme.

CIE are in negotiations with the trade unions concerned in the introduction of a new pension scheme for wages grades employees. When the negotiations have been completed, the proposed scheme will have to be submitted by CIE for my approval under the Transport Act, 1950. I am not in a position to say when that stage will be reached.

How long have negotiations been going on?

I cannot say that. Negotiations are in progress but I have not the specific information the Deputy seeks.

Is the Minister aware that the negotiations have been going on for a long time and that it is necessary to speed them up? The problem is that some confusion might result or worse in relation to our national transport service. The Minister should try to stem any unrest which might develop as a result of long delays.

I cannot intervene there.
