Vol. 302 No. 4

Written Answers. - Benefit Payments Delay.

272.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the unsatisfactory situation existing in the Barnmore and Fintown areas of County Donegal due to the late arrival of UA 30p and UP 8 forms at the local post office so that recipients of benefit are not paid until Monday which causes undue hardships on many families.

I am not aware of any delays in the payment of unemployment benefit or assistance in the Barnesmore area. I have, however, received complaints about delays on recent occasions in the Fintown area. The delays in question were due to late receipt of the certified evidence of unemployment at my Department's local office with consequential delay in the issue of payments. I have had action taken by my Department to ensure that such delays do not occur in future.
