Vol. 302 No. 4

Written Answers. - Security Organisation Grants.

290.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make grants available towards meeting the cost of employing a security organisation.

296.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will make grants available to firms and others employing security staff or who need to employ such staff; and if he is aware that such grants are available in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, some EEC countries and third countries which grant aid of 75 per cent of the cost of such employment with a maximum of £1,550 to firms employing 10 or more people.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 290 and 296 together.

I have already indicated that I am not satisfied with the level of security that is operated by some firms and institutions for the protection of their cash and valuables. While the matters referred to in the questions may merit examination, I do not consider that at this stage the question of committing public moneys in the way suggested is called for.
