Vol. 302 No. 8

Written Answers. - Unemployment Figures

166.

asked the Taoiseach the number of people under 25 years currently unemployed in this country.

The only comprehensive source of information on unemployed persons classified according to age groups is the series of labour force surveys. The results from the 1975 survey show that there was an estimated 46,600 unemployed persons under 25 years at the end of May in that year, of which 19,700 were seeking regular work for the first time.

A further labour force survey was taken in the spring of this year and it is anticipated that the first results will be available during the first half of 1978.
