Vol. 302 No. 8

Written Answers. - Third Level Education Student Facilities.

213.

asked the Minister for Education if he is satisfied with the library, canteen and student facilities at each of the colleges and institutes of third level education; and if he will make a comprehensive statement in respect of each such college.

The question of the adequacy of the library, canteen and student facilities at each of the colleges and institutes of third-level education is not one for which I have responsibility of first instance. Such responsibility in respect of the universities and national Institute of Higher Education, Limerick, rests, primarily, on the relevant governing body or college council, and secondarily, on the Higher Education Authority. In respect of institutions of third level education in the vocational sector, the primary responsibility rests on the vocational education committee concerned.

Substantial additional facilities are in course of provision or planning and applications for any further improved facilities for these colleges and institutions will no doubt receive appropriate consideration.
