Vol. 303 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disabled Persons Car Grant.

34.

asked the Minister for Health whether he intends to increase the special grant to the disabled who purchase a car for their use.

As I indicated in my reply of 29 November (Official Report, Vol. 302, columns 179 and 180) I am reviewing the working of this scheme.

Is the Minister aware of the very strong case made by the chairman of the Irish Wheelchair Association, in the presence of his colleague, the Minister for Economic Planning and Development, for a drastic increase in the rate of grant to the disabled in this regard?

I did not hear the Deputy.

I will permit the Deputy to repeat his supplementary question.

I asked whether the Minister was aware of the very strong case made by the chairman of the Irish Wheelchair Association in regard to the need for an increase in this grant?

I am aware of the need for action and I hope it will be fairly soon.

May I point out also that the question I tabled, in conjunction with these questions, in regard to the appointment of a director for the Health Education Bureau has not appeared on the Order Paper nor has it been disallowed by you, Sir. May I ask what happened to it?

I will look into the matter for the Deputy.

May I have written replies to Questions Nos. 94, 95 and 96?

That will be attended to. The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
