Vol. 303 No. 8

Facilities for Members.

As a Deputy who is not represented on the Committee on Procedure and Privileges, may I ask the Ceann Comhairle who is the Chairman of that Committee, whether any action is being taken about the appalling employment conditions in the House for Members, I understand, of all parties? Has any attempt been made to deal with the situation and to give us reasonable working conditions or must we wait until one of us take an action in the courts against the Government?

This is not a suitable time to raise the matter.

Are you not Chairman of the Committee?

I am and I can tell the Deputy that the matter to which he refers was discussed by the Committee at their last two meetings and that it will be discussed again when the Committee meets today at 4.30 p.m.

I have no access to that Committee.

The Deputy's position was discussed at the meeting to which I have referred and will be discussed again today.

Without intending any disrespect, I wrote to you some time ago on behalf of three Deputies regarding this matter but so far I have had no reply to my letter.
