asked the Minister for Justice the full names, addresses and affiliations of all his appointees to visiting committees in all prisons and places of detention for the current year.

It has never been the practice to make public the addresses of visiting committee members since, for one thing, publication would make it more likely that members would be importuned by friends or relatives of offenders seeking favours for offenders. I do not know the affiliations, religious, sporting or otherwise of a number of those I have appointed and I would not think it appropriate to attempt to list the affiliations known to me.

The names of those who have been appointed to Visiting Committees for Mountjoy, Cork, Portlaoise Prisons, St. Patrick's Institution and Shanganagh Castle for 1978 are as follows:
