Vol. 304 No. 6

Written Answers. - Semi-State Bodies Officers.

503.

asked the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy if he will state in respect of Irish Steel Holdings and NET (a) the salary and total emoluments of the respective chief executive officers and (b) whether the chief executive officers of these bodies receive fees in respect of their membership of other bodies, boards or councils and so on.

I presume that the second part of the Deputy's question relates to bodies and boards in the public sector. The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the following tabular statement:

Name of body

Salary and total emoluments of chief executive officer

Fees in respect of membership of other bodies, boards, councils, etc.

Irish Steel Holdings

£12,739+£200 representation allowance plus private use of company car. This rate is personal to the existing holder of the post.

Nil

Nítrigin Éireann Teoranta.

The range of total remuneration recommended by the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Sector in its 1976 reassessment of the post of chief executive of NET was £12,615—14,198 (expressed in 1977 terms). The salary being paid by the board is in excess of the recommended maximum and the matter is under consideration in consultation with the Minister for the Public Service.

The chief executive is chairman of one State board and a member of two others. He is in receipt of a director's fee for one having been in receipt of this fee prior to the adoption in 1974 of the concept of “one man one salary”.
