Vol. 304 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Workers' Wages.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance the national average basic pay, without overtime, allowances, and so on, of the industrial workers whose average weekly earnings are, as reportedly stated by him, £70 per week.

When I made the statement to which the Deputy refers the latest published information on industrial earnings was for March 1977. Data published by the Central Statistics Office showed that average weekly earnings of men on adult rates in manufacturing industry in that month were £70.85. Corresponding figures for June 1977 have since been published showing that average earnings were then £74.27. Information on basic pay on the lines sought by the Deputy is not available from the Central Statistics Office.
